Pilates
The BASI Pilates method seeks to develop awareness, balance,
control, efficiency, precision, breath, concentration, center, flow &
harmony. Pilates repertoire is performed by either using a range of apparatuses
to guide and train the body or by performing a range of exercises on a mat.
Pilates mat exercises are performed in a seated, supine, prone or
side-lying position. Not only including spinal flexion and extension, Pilates
exercises incorporates lateral flexion, rotation, multi directional-gliding,
circumduction, tilt, adduction & abduction. Therefore working in the
sagittal, coronal & transverse planes of motion. Auxiliary apparatus used
during matwork sessions include the magic circle, rotating discs, resistance
bands, balance ball, small weights, foam rollers, exercise balls and more.
Pilates conditions and tones the body from head to toe with a
no-to low-impact approach suitable for all ages and abilities. It requires
patience and practice, but results do follow with regular training sessions.
